I saw someone playing a kalimba and HAD to have one. Had a birthday coming up so I did lots of research before choosing one to buy. I was so excited to tell my boyfriend that I had found his gift to me! {hee, hee}
One of the things I was a little worried about was seeing reviews that the smallest notes at each end didn't have the clear sound the bigger notes do. And while this is technically true, I don't feel it's a big problem because they are fine with a softer sound. It's really easy to play and sounds so beautiful. I suppose I might learn to play a song or two, but even not knowing any songs it's been so fun and relaxing to fiddle around with. Do yourself a favor and get one that is above toy-grade. This one is finely crafted and high quality and it shows.
Bonus: My cats don't mind the kalimba; they do not like it when I practice the flute or piccolo. ♥

The Kalimba is so easy to learn and play. You only need to press the keys or tines by your thumbs.
Every Thumb Piano is tuned and tested before shipped. The tone is the same as a piano. International C tune.
English Manual book helps you to play the piano easily, there are several simple orchids so you can try to play. Also, you can download some youtube videos to give you more inspiration.

Protective Case for Kalimba
When you do not play the kalimba, please put your kalimba in the bag or box. We offer a protective case for your kalimba, which can prevent the thumb piano from being damaged, humidified, oxidized, scratched and so on.
*Please keep your kalimba in the environment of relative humidity between 30-60, because if it gets damp and rusty, the key’s resonance function will be affected.

If you're just looking for something fun to fiddle around with, grab one for yourself - I find it really relaxing to just sit and thumb around on it.

Accessories were all included as advertised.
Tuning was pretty much on out of the box. Maybe runs a little bit sharp, but was in tune with itself, so it played really nicely. If you're looking for an inexpensive way to get a little one started with music, this would be a great choice. I had expected some nondescript packaging and an ok instrument. I have been pleasantly surprised!!! The box is beautiful from the initial Kalimba package to the sturdy and seemingly well crafted case. The Kalimba it's self is well crafted and beautiful! The sound is lovely and the metal keys seem thick enough to hold a note without tuning almost indefinitely, but are easy to press. I purchased this as a gift for my father, an avid musician and guy who has everything, and I am so excited to give it to him, he doesn't have one of these , yet.
